《神偷奶爸》系列由照明娛樂公司(Illumination Entertainment)製作，其創始人克里斯-麥雷丹德瑞(Chris Meledandri)曾是二十世紀福克斯動畫部的主管，參與過《冰河世紀》等熱門動畫長片的製作，環球擁有這家公司的一部分股份。
神偷奶爸格魯(Gru)再度迴歸，除了保護寶貝女兒和戲耍賤萌小黃人外，這次他將要去尋找自己失散多年的孿生兄弟德魯(Dru)，他與格魯長相基本一樣，不過有頭髮，而且一身白，與格魯一身黑搭配成黑白雙煞。這兩個角色都將由史蒂夫·卡瑞爾(Steve Carell)配音。
不過，尋親路不易，這一次我們惡魔暖男格魯將迎來最可怕的勁敵——身着紫衣的悶騷男，大反派"巴薩澤·布拉特"(Balthazar Bratt)，這位怪叔叔曾是80年代一部熱門電視劇《邪惡布拉特》(Evil Brat)裏的童星。他在這部劇中飾演一個神童犯罪天才，街舞、武術、高科技裝備樣樣精通。然而到了青春期他的電視節目被拿掉導致他怒火中燒轉變成大反派，他要報復所有嘲笑他的人。
