《神偷奶爸》系列由照明娱乐公司(Illumination Entertainment)制作，其创始人克里斯-麦雷丹德瑞(Chris Meledandri)曾是二十世纪福克斯动画部的主管，参与过《冰河世纪》等热门动画长片的制作，环球拥有这家公司的一部分股份。
神偷奶爸格鲁(Gru)再度回归，除了保护宝贝女儿和戏耍贱萌小黄人外，这次他将要去寻找自己失散多年的孪生兄弟德鲁(Dru)，他与格鲁长相基本一样，不过有头发，而且一身白，与格鲁一身黑搭配成黑白双煞。这两个角色都将由史蒂夫·卡瑞尔(Steve Carell)配音。
不过，寻亲路不易，这一次我们恶魔暖男格鲁将迎来最可怕的劲敌——身着紫衣的闷骚男，大反派"巴萨泽·布拉特"(Balthazar Bratt)，这位怪叔叔曾是80年代一部热门电视剧《邪恶布拉特》(Evil Brat)里的童星。他在这部剧中饰演一个神童犯罪天才，街舞、武术、高科技装备样样精通。然而到了青春期他的电视节目被拿掉导致他怒火中烧转变成大反派，他要报复所有嘲笑他的人。
